Some of you may have heard the term being thrown around lately and thought “BUDDHA Bowl???” You may have also been confused because all these supposed “Buddha Bowls” look different…soooo….what exactly IS IT?
Well…the short answer…it is this:
The longer answer is that there are actually no strict guidelines when defining (or creating) a Buddha Bowl. The proteins, vegetables, grains and dressing vary widely. Basically, it is simply an overstuffed bowl resembling the belly of Buddha. That is how is is defined on UrbanDictionary.com anyways, and it seems to be the closest thing to an official definition you’re going to get…for now anyways.
**And don’t worry…if you are thinking it sounds similar to Hippie Bowls or Sunshine Bowls that is because it is. Call it what you want…I just call it delicious!**
Most bowls are loaded with a ton of different kinds of veggies, roasted or raw. Most are vegetarian or vegan though you will come across Buddha Bowl recipes with meat. Most are served on a bed of whole grains like rice or quinoa, though some are more salad-esque.
The sauce? I love to put a big dollop of hummus and then any dressings and/or sauces I am feeling at the moment.
